Programme
Completed in under four weeks, on programme and within budget
Installing the Tanks
Each tank sat in a hole sized for a minimum 150 mm concrete base and a full concrete surround, with extra room for safe working and shuttering. A hardcore base was prepared, lined and topped with a minimum 150 mm concrete bed.
The tanks were lowered into position, checked for level and for the correct orientation of inlets and outlets, then ballasted with water. Concrete was placed around the base and haunched up, followed by continuous staged backfilling with concrete. Keeping the water level inside slightly above the rising concrete outside gave each tank a continuous concrete jacket with no cold joints.
The Challenge
The works took place among finished buildings with delicate cladding, in tight confines and while other trades carried on around us. Each tank came in under a carefully planned lift, coordinating two pieces of heavy plant working either side of a narrow gap.
Over 300 metres of ducting and drainage were laid to and from the existing structures, with multiple chambers, inspection pits and draw pits. More than 100 tonnes of Type 1 was then placed and levelled to match the finished buildings and create gentle falls.
