Small Works Case Study - Basingstoke, Hampshire
Reinforced Concrete Slab for an Outbuilding in Basingstoke
Extending and modifying an existing slab to take a larger outbuilding at a listed period property, with access too narrow for a concrete lorry.
Project Elements
Excavation, a new sub-base, formation of the thickenings, doweling into the existing slab, pouring and finishing.
Client
Private residential client
Location
Listed period property, Basingstoke, Hampshire
Specification
Approx. 50 m² slab, 200 mm thick in C30 concrete, 200 mm thickenings, two layers of A393 mesh, doweled into the existing slab
Programme
Completed in under four weeks, on programme and within budget
The Challenge
The client needed their existing concrete slab extended and modified to accommodate a larger outbuilding, on a listed period property where care around the building was essential.
Access was via a very narrow driveway that would not take a concrete mixer. A concrete pump wasn't an option either, as the single-track lane couldn't be blocked by HGVs.
How We Did It
All the concrete was delivered in bulk bags, moved one by one on a 1-tonne dumper and mixed at the slab location. Despite the constraints, the works were completed efficiently and within the agreed time and budget, leaving the client happy with both the finish and the care taken around the listed property.
