Project Case Study - Stratton Park - During Build

Project Elements

Foundations and Reinforced Concrete Slab

The clubhouse in Baisingstoke that the client was installing was a prefabricated unit, and so our tolerances were tighter than a traditional masonry build. We agreed a tight programme and were able to deliver the works on schedule, to the customer's satisfaction.

Drainage

The drainage was a design and build portion so that HRGW were called upon to solve some difficult drainage issues on site. The nearest foul drain was over 100m away from the building so there was some challenges to overcome in providing a successful drain system, however we were able to plot a route and install in such a way that all necessary regulations were achieved while meeting all the requirements of the client.

Masonry to DPC

To meet planning permission requirements the building's below-dpc brick and blockwork had to be of nearly identical style to the nearest building. It was also crucial that the masonry was of high accuracy to accept the follow on pre-fabricated structure. HRGW were able to achieve these goals within the allowed time and budget.

Project Summary

The new Headquarters for the B&NHMRS in Baisingstoke was an exercise in value engineering. Being a not for profit organisation they were financially constrained and duty-bound to get the best value building possible. The groundworks element made up half of the total build cost and as such Hardrock Groundworks worked closely with B&NHMRS to bring the project cost to within their tight budget.

Being situated in a public park area, sited on a busy car park that was still live there was a strong desire to reduce the negative impact of the construction to a minimum. By adhering to strick working hours, choosing the newest plant with noise reduction measures and programming works to avoid clashing with local events Hardrock was able to complete the works with no negative feedback from the public.

Although a smaller project for Hardrock Groundworks, it was a real pleasure to be involved in a community project like this and offer the cost reductions we could in order to make their vision a reality.

" We chose to work with Jamie due to his expertise in the end to end management of the groundworks phase. He has been very helpful and proactive. The work has been completed to a very high standard, the site was kept tidy and there were no issues throughout the duration of the project. Communication has always been frequent, honest, quick and effective. I would absolutely hire him again. "
